In 293 A.C. the Roman emperor Diocletian visits the settlement and orders to fence the town about with walls (it still exists) and declares the hot-springs as emperor’s property. The town was name Diocletianopolis and turned into well-known resort were the Roman patricians would rest. In 1976 a national archaeological reserve with monuments from the Roman époque was created in Hissar.
